Phosboucraa is the largest private employer in the Region.

  • Phosboucraa employs nearly 2,200 people, of which 75% are locals (with 100% of new recruits who are also locals).
  • The percentage of our workforce from this region grew from 4% in 1977 to 75% in 2016. This provides an estimated payroll of USD 77 million (MAD 752 million).
  • Our operations support 50 local companies that operate as subcontractors, which in turn employ over 600 people from the local community.

In Western Sahara, there is relatively high unemployment (noted in research studies to be between 15% to 20%). As such, the Reviewers found that the employment opportunities offered by OCP/Phosboucraa are important and valuable to people in the region
